Borrowed the term "Copy-Ninja" from this: fav.me/d4bnrum
Anyways. Just a reflection of my crazy quest to, well, nowhere. For the last... few weeks, I'd say, I've been doing copy-ninja activities with Mobile Otome Games' CGs.
It began when Voltage started spewing crap CGs of Eduardo. It drove me nuts because Eduardo's face is one of the very few things I like about him, and if it's ruined, then my entire experience is RUINED. That pissed me off so much that one day I put my foot down and declared, "Voltage, you suck. Let me SHOW YOU how it's done!" That's when I opened the "CG Doctor Office" daeva-agas.tumblr.com/cgdoctor…
I promised myself I will hunt down every single Eduardo "crap-CG" that ever existed and show them who's boss. The one I made for the sequel drew some attention because some people actually thought it was legit and I totally won the edit contest because Voltage's official ones still suck.
I'm going to break off to say: No offense to those who DO like what Voltage produced. I don't like it and I call it crap because that's how I feel.
So that got me way over my head and I decided to make fake CGs from scratch. Which was horrible because when I edit, I still have the Shin picture to reference the measurements and such. Drawing from scratch... I have to wing everything. Not so much fun over there. I managed to put together something that looks okay, and that is still my most-reblogged picture ever on Tumblr daeva-agas.tumblr.com/post/378…
Everyone loves it for some reason
Then because I've conquered Voltage, it got into my head that I should try tackling Solmare next. It started with a joke, really, because who in their right mind would dress up the bad guy like a Vegas Chippendale performer? *coughninjalovecough* So because I'm all for romancing the villain, why the hell not?
2 fake CGs of Nobunaga later, I'm this close to actually writing out that route. I mean, I know how to use Ren'py, I know enough about designing interface to be able to make something that resembles the original at least a LITTLE, and I could probably just crop out the sprites from screencaps and promo material.
In retrospect... what the heck was all these for? It was pointless, it didn't help me learn anything new, and it was almost a waste of time. Time I enjoyed wasting, but a waste all the same. I... got to watch a lot of Dr Phil episodes! I watch Dr Phil while I was drawing. I get to practice working on SAI. I found out that I can, in fact, conquer Solmare's very bizarre shading style and do it better than I do Voltage. I also get to research more on the ninjas and the general time period because I double check the facts before I post my angry rant about how everything is wrong.
Conclusion: I had a blast with this LOLz. This quest to nowhere has been fun. I'll still be doing the CG Doctor at least up until Eduardo's sequel, because Voltage has finally found themselves a decent artist who did an okay job converting Shin to Eduardo. Not as good as the original artist, but at least I don't freak and flail when I see the picture.
